I guess you didn't get any "lore", but I will pull a Bacon on you, and transfer (re: hijack) to Loser, and the reliance on the Q of Diamonds (he's not gonna lose, right?), whereas, to Baconite it, in Desperado (whatever you think of the tune/Eagles/others that do it), "she" is NOT your best bet...rather, the Q of Hearts.

I always think of that trivia when listening to Deal/Loser, and of course, have always bet on the QD rather than the QH since hearing it...

How's that for far afield?

excerpt from Annotated GD Lyrics (D. Dodd)

[[[4. inside straight
An inside straight is a drawing hand in poker with a single missing rank to draw a straight. A hand with an ace, a king, a jack, and a ten would need a queen to fill an inside straight. This is how the player knows he will not lose, the card on the top of the deck has the shine of the queen of diamonds, so he knows he will make his hand even though it is a statistical long shot. Good poker players will almost never draw to an inside straight.]]]

the queen of hearts is all about warmth (only privy to the dealer) but the queen of diamonds is the gal that shines!

Of course she does!

[thanks for that...]

[EDIT: of course, I can count the number of inside straights I have "filled"!? Shine or no, it just doesn't work out too often...]

Of course, in a game of Hearts, it is the queen of spades that can prove most significant.
